My book Sorrowfish takes place in 2001 for a reason. That was a very important time in my life. I had started school again here in Louisville to learn to be a graphic designer. My daughter was 9. I was a single mom. I remember on that day I was running around looking for a used camera for my photography class. I was in a shop on Bardstown Road and on the television behind the counter, a plane crashed.
My dad called me and talked to me about what was going on. He told me the world would never be the same.
I remember going into class the next day, the solemnity of everyone. The hushed tones everyone used. We were all shocked.
Of course it is in my books. It hasn’t come up yet. But it will. Never forget.
The song that comes up in my heart when I think of September 11, 2001 is Snow Patrol. Chasing Cars. Take a listen. Maybe you will understand why.
